Are You Ready for Prime Time?! 
You may have heard that the NSSA has decided to discontinue their membership in Surfing America. That means their surfers are no longer eligible for the Surfing America USA Championships or the Surfing America PacSun USA Surf Team. WSA viewed this as an opportunity to roll out a new program that is designed from the ground up to help develop west coast junior surfers for the US team and to successfully compete on the world stage at the ISA World Jr. Surfing Championships and the ISA Pan American Surfing Championships. With input from some of the top names in professional surfing and overwhelming support of the surf industry and Surfing America, WSA is proud to announce WSA Prime. WSA Prime will be for under 18 shortboarders (as of January 1, 2009) and will feature 4 person heats, certified judges and computer scoring. The inaugural season will start in September 2008 and will consist of 6 events the first year. We are finalizing the details and more announcements will be made soon. WSA Gets More Slots in the Surfing America US Championships!
WSA lobbied Surfing America for more slots in the US Championships and we got 'em. Especially in over 18, Women's and longboard divisions. Now more of our competitors will qualify for the US Championships at the Huntington Beach Pier August 19 - 24. But remember, you must surf 5 regular season WSA events plus our West Coast Championships to be in the running for a slot.

WSA is proud to announce new media partners! Surfline has upped their committment to WSA competitors by giving a free one year subscription to "Water" Magazine to each member. This is in addition to the subscription to Surfline Premium. Water is a beautiful quarterly publication published on heavy glossy paper stock. Surfline has also given us a 10 x 10 tent for our events offering more shelter for competitors. They also provide us with our offical surf forecasts. Check out Surfline.
TransWorld Surf will be providing free subscriptions to all of our competitors, too! Plus they will be at some of our events and begin coverage of WSA in the magazine and on their website TransWorldSurf.com

Mark Your Calendars-
The Surfing America US Championships will be held August 19 - 24 at the Huntington Beach Pier, Southside. Make sure you surf the required minimum of 5 events to be invited to our West Coast Championships. Top rated surfers from each division will be invited to compete at the US Championships.
